Spence Lake

Spence Lake is a 7 mile long by 1 1/4 mile wide tea coloured lake. Pike up to 48" have been caught and released at Spence over the years. Walleye fishing is very good, with some of our largest walleyes coming from this lake. Spence recorded a 30 1/4" walleye in '03 and a 30" in '04. Many walleye dinners have been caught off the dock. The cabin at Spence is insulated, has a separate bedroom area (with 2 piece bathroom) and eating area. The cabin can accommodate 4-6 guests, has a gravity feed water system and a small Honda generator. Spence has three 15' Alumarine boats (with casting decks) with 15 hp motors.

Outposts. . .

McDonald River

McDonald River is the other outpost available to guests. It has had the least amount of fishing pressure of our outposts and as a result, those who have fished there have had unbelievable success with walleye. The same can't really be said about the pike fishing though. In the 4 times we fished McDonald River in 2007, the largest pike we caught was 42". Our reports from the late 90's and early 2000s tell us that numerous pike over 36", including a 48" monster, have been caught and released at the outpost. The cabin at McDonald River has yet to be modernized. It accommodates 2-4 guests, but doesn't have a gravity feed water system or generator like Spence Lake. There are two 14' boats with 15 hp motors at the cabin. We have placed a newer 14' boat with 9.9 hp motor at Bartle Lake. Only a 1/2 mile portage from the main body of water, Bartle Lake offers great fishing for lake trout and pike.

Minor Bay Lodge operates two unique outposts. The Spence outpost is located on Spence Lake and McDonald River outpost which is located on a section of the McDonald River system.

Each outpost is reserved for the exclusive use of our guests and is accessible only by floatplane. The following is a brief description of what we have to offer.
Minor Bay Lodge offers 4, 7 and 8 day outpost packages. Combination packages, trips to either of our outposts as well as a stay at our main lodge on Wollaston Lake are also available. Each outpost or combination package includes your float plane transfer to and from the main lodge. Satellite phones, for communication with the main lodge, are provided. Each outpost cabin has propane lights, fridge and stove.
Fishing pressure at both of the outposts has been limited to only a handful of groups over each of the last few seasons. As a result, fishing pressure has been very light which, in turn, should lead to great success for those who choose to experience one of our outpost trips.
